The state health department has fined a troubled nursing home more than $100,000 and forced sweeping changes to the facility’s management following a series of media investigative reports. An Attorney General announced the indictment of a former nursing aide today. The former Certified Nurse’s Assistant (CNA) is charged with assaulting a resident of a nursing home. The 34-year-old woman was arrested yesterday after the Medicaid Fraud Control Unit presented evidence to a grand jury on August 4.
Nursing Home Veterans Raise Money for a Falgpole At Facility
A flagpole is being erected at one nursing home thanks to the efforts of two World War II veterans who are residents of the home. The two men said they could not believe there was no American flag flying outside the building. “I think it’s important for a place that has 28 veterans living in it to have a flag,” said one of the residents.

A caretaker has been charged with beating an elderly Alzheimer’s patient he was entrusted to care for, according to police. Investigators found the bruised elderly patient in his home on Friday morning after receiving reports of two bizarre incidents in the parking of the man’s condo facility. The first complaint was a report of a man who had dropped a lit cigarette in the gas-fill area of a vehicle and then walked away, according to police.

A water main break left hundreds without water earlier this week. Crews have been working around the clock to restore water to hundreds of people affected by the city water main break . A nearby assisited living facility was one of the city’s first priorities.
Nurse's Aides Get Jail Time After Covering Nursing Home Residents in Vaseline
Two former nursing home certified nursing assistants (CNA’s) have been sentenced to 20 days in jail for a prank that allegedly involved coating dementia patients with ointment so they would be “slippery” for workers on the next shift. In addition, the two CNA’s also were sentenced Tuesday to two years’ probation for misdemeanor elder abuse. Three other defendants had previously received community service for their roles in the November 2009 incident.
