Woman Sentenced to Six Years Jail Time After Trying to Smother Nursing Home Resident
A 49-year-old woman is going to prison for six years for trying to suffocate an elderly woman at a nursing home.The woman was sentenced Friday in County Superior Court after pleading guilty to trying to suffocate a 97-year-old woman at the Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with a pillow on Feb. 6. Police say she did not know the victim.
Nurse's Assistant Charged With Theft and Neglect of Elderly
A woman was sentenced to serve time in jail last week after stealing painkiller patches from the nursing home where she was employed. The 30 year old Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) was charged with theft and neglect in April after allegedly stealing nine painkiller patches from nursing home patients while working at the home. The woman admitted to taking the Duragesic patches from four mentally and physically impaired patients.
Outbreak of Legionnaire's Disease Has Nursing Home Taking Precautions
At one nursing home, three residents have been treated for Legionella, a bacterial infection related to Legionnaire’s Disease. Of the three residents, two have been treated and released, one is still hospitalized. Legionnaire’s disease is cause by bacteria usually transmitted through drinking water, air conditioning units and other water sprays which could be inhaled.
Nursing Home Evacuated Following Lightning Strike
Last week fast acting employees were praised for quickly evacuating nursing home that was struck by lightning.The Administrator of the home says they were blessed that the fire was minor and that the staff members had the wing evacuated before the fire department had arrived. Lightning struck the nursing home Tuesday evening, burning a hole in the roof and setting off the sprinkler system. Nurses and other staff rushed to evacuate 16 patients in a small wing of the facility.
Caretaker Arrested On Charges of Aggravated Neglect of Elderly
A caretaker was arrested last week after her 88-year-old client was taken to the hospital with severe pressure ulcers and an infection, authorities said. The elderly woman, who has dementia, also appeared to be malnourished, according to the arrest report. Assisted Living Employee Steals over $120,000 from Residents and Fellow Employees
A woman has pleaded guilty to stealing personal information from both residents and employees of assisted living facilities. The stolen information was used to open fraudulent accounts. The 39-year-old pleaded guilty on Wednesday to bank fraud and aggravated identity theft.
