A judge has decided that the accusations of elder abuse at one nursing care facility warrant a trial. The suit was brought to the court by the son of Dorris Hilton who died after spending three months at the facility. Hilton, 78, died in November 2006 after suffering from a urinary tract infection(UTI).

An elderly woman who was allegedly attacked by a nursing home employee died this week, not from the alleged attack, but from an infection. Now her family is suing the nursing home, saying their loved one was abused and neglected. The woman died on April 3 from what doctors described as a massive blood infection, from a large bedsore on her back.

Medicare is now publishing information on medical errors to allow the public to compare the safety records of more than 4,700 hospitals nationwide. The government health plan officially released data Wednesday  which details occurrences of eight serious and preventable medical errors. Since 2008, Medicare has not reimbursed hospitals for the care incurred by theses specific events — including air bubbles in the bloodstream, falls, bedsores, infusions with the wrong blood type, urinary tract…

Police arrested two additional care workers and have charged them with the abuse of an elderly dementia patient at a nursing home facility, police said. Both of the employees are charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, criminal conspiracy, harassment, neglect of a care-dependent person and other related crimes. The two worked at the facility and allegedly taunted and physically abused a 78-year-old woman, suffering from dementia.

Four elderly nursing home residents passed away in the same week following the outbreak of a “respiratory illness” last month. The residents who were all said to have underlying medical conditions but the time-span of their deaths prompted an investigation. So far, it is not known what triggered the outbreak at the home.

An elderly woman died over the weekend after she was hit by a car while sitting in a nursing home dining room. At around 3:45 Thursday afternoon, an 85-year-old man who was traveling to the facility to visit his wife experienced a sudden medical emergency, which caused him drive through the dining room of the nursing home. The vehicle struck a 91-year-old female resident who was in a wheelchair drinking coffee in that area.
