A nurse pleaded guilty on Monday to diluting morphine-based prescriptions for patients at nursing home. The nurse pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to one count each of consumer product tampering and adulteration of a drug.
Roanoke Nursing Home Robbed at Gunpoint
According to the Roanoke Times: Roanoke County police are looking for a man who robbed a nursing home at gunpoint Friday night to get prescription drugs, according to police. Employees at Emeritus at Cave Spring on Brambleton Avenue told police a man entered the nursing home with a gun and demanded prescription medication, said Roanoke County Sgt. M.H.

The children of former actor Gene Barry have alleged in a state court lawsuit that a nursing home near Los Angeles caused his death by neglecting to monitor the man’s condition after he had suffered a fall. Police are investigating the death of an 83-year-old woman whose caretaker was arrested on suspicion of elder abuse shortly after the older woman’s body was found. A relative called police just before 11 a.m. Thursday to ask officers to check on the welfare of the woman.

The Journal Sentinel reports that police in one city were dispatched over 380 times to nursing homes during the from January through June of 2010. With a larger percentage of calls relating to violent resident behavior, the figure sheds light on how nursing homes deal with combative patients who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia.
