A few nursing homes have recently been cited in one state for serious violations relating to patient care. One citation involved a patient who had a hypoglycemic incident sending her to the hospital because she had an incorrect does of insulin. Another citation involved a patient who died due to a medication error with blood thinning medication. Seven other facilities involved citations of lesser harm.

A nurse has been arrested in connection with the rape and assault of a patient who recently gave birth to a child. The facility had no idea she was pregnant. Officals took DNA samples from the baby and the suspect and found a match.

Following a nursing home case investigation, it was discovered in findings of fact that nursing home owners of a nursing home chain were siphoning funds through companies they managed to offer auxillary services to the nursing home. These services included pharmacy prescriptions, therapy and other services provided outside direct nursing  care. An investigation that recently highlighted the fact that suspicious deaths are neither being reported nor investigated by a medical examiner has brought other statistics to the forefront. The family of a loved one diagnosed with early onset dementia has advocated along with their loved one to open up a new type of facility to meet the needs of dementia patients in an innovative way. The facility will look more like a normal home dwelling, rather than an institution, housing only 36 residents at a time. Currently a facility is under investigation for a second allegation following accusations of rape and abuse. The facility was first accused of allowing a patient in a vegetative state to be raped. She gave birth to a child, leading to DNA investigations. The facility is being investigated for more abuse allegations made by a female patient.
