VA Nursing Homes Under Fire For Poor Quality Care

Veteran nursing homes are under scrutiny for their quality of healthcare after recent surveys revealed issues with care. In an unannounced survey, two nurses were caught sleeping on the job. The survey results hit the mainstream and letters of concern went to the President of the United States. “We have significant concern about the blatant disregard for veteran safety by the registered nurses and certified nurse assistants,” said investigators.

A hospital has been cited for a staffing shortage after an unannounced survey took place. The state department of health received a packet from bourses working at the hospital,  notifying them of the staffing shortages.  The hospital has to form a plan of correction in order to be deemed back in compliance.

Nursing Home Patient Dumped At Assisted Living Facility

Nursing homes have been investigated for early discharges of patients incapable of caring for themselves. For one patient whose needs were greater than the facility was willing to provide, the patient was dropped off at assisted living facility where he formally lived but no longer had a lease.  He had seizures and was no longer capable of caring for himself.

Admissions have been suspended for a nursing home in one state. The nursing home has not paid taxes for the beds and the state has concerns it will affect the wellbeing of patients. The facility may have the ban lifted once requirements are met. The failure to pay the taxes causes concern for the financial wellbeing of the facility.

Nursing Home Patient Dies; Lawsuit Filed

A lawsuit has been filed against a nursing home for the death of a patient. The patient was a 44-year-old father and grandfather. He suffered stroke and was unable to care for himself when he was admitted. The nursing home had a malfunctioning heating unit that caused the patient to overheat.
