Patient Falls During Transfer, Suffers Fracture, Dies After Surgery; Facility Settles
A 92-year-old female patient was admitted to an assisted living facility on or about June 28, 2011. At all times relevant, the patient was a high fall risk, about which the assisted living staff were aware. The patient had chronic instability and a history of multiple falls at the assisted living facility.
Nursing Home Patient Falls During Van Transfer From Wheelchair
A nursing home has been cited for allowing a patient to suffer an injury while being transported in the facility's van. The patient fell out of the van from a wheelchair suffering a head injury, facial cuts, and two fractures. The facility was fined $25,000 for the violation of care. The facility was the only facility to receive a type A level citation.
Elderly Woman Dies Due To Neglect, Bed Sores
Two family members of an elderly woman have been sentenced to prison for neglect. The elderly woman suffered neglect for at least three years at the hands of her family. She was discharged from her home to the hospital where she died after suffering from bedsores.
CMS Adds Nursing Home Quality Measures
The CMS has released additional quality measures related to reimbursement rates for nursing home patients. If they do not report on them or report poor outcomes of the measures, they can suffer a reduced reimbursement rate from Medicare. While at the hospital, she was noted to be increasingly confused and, per therapy records there, required supervision for bed mobility and transfers. Nursing Home Employee Arrested For Patient Abuse
A nursing home employee has been arrested after being caught on video abusing a patient. The employee was observed slapping a dementia patient multiple times. She then drug the patient into the bathroom.Along woth another employee she sprayed the patient in the face with the shower head.
