Three cases of Legionnaires disease have been confirmed in a nursing home after being tested. The water that was contaminated was isolated to the nursing home facility where the patients were residing. The state had 50 confirmed cases last year.The symptoms he flu.

The family of an 84-year-old female patient was allegedly raped repeatedly. The family filed a lawsuit after contacting the facility with no response. The family then contacted local police who performed an investigation.

A nursing home has been cited for housing rundown medical equipment that could be used for nursing home patients. One piece of equipment was a rusty wheelchair. The other piece of equipment was a dust-covered suction machine. The equipment was identified during an audit of the nursing home that followed a survey completed by the health department.

A nursing home has placed patients in imminent danger as family members of the patients testify about the poor quality care their loved ones have received. One family member spoke of poor hygiene and uncleanliness for her mother. She also spoke of items being stolen, while her mother lay in crusted food, coffee and urine stains.Another family member of a different patient found his father deceased in his bed when he came to visit.

Each year the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid release a list of Special Focus Facilities (SFFs). The purpose of the list is to identify nursing homes with serious deficiencies that have not been corrected. On average a nursing home has 6-7 deficiencies per survey.

Two homes for the elderly have been cited for neglect and the treating physician and manager of the homes have been arrested. A patient under their care experienced obvious neglect.  The patient suffered bed sores and a seizure.
