Patient Falls, Fractures Both Knees; No Treatment For 9 Days

The second largest nursing home in one state has been ordered to halt admissions after a patient's death due to negligence. A patient suffering from dementia fell and broke both knees.  The nursing home failed to provide xrays until 5 days after the fall even though the patient complained of pain.The nursing home still waited 4 more days to send the patient to the hospital, totalling 9 days before treatment was delivered.

Nursing Home Employee Assaults Patient

A former nursing home employee has filed a lawsuit against the nursing home where she worked. The employee accused a the nursing home of failure to report sexual assault of a patient by another employee. The nurse said she was fired after reporting the failure. The state investigated the incident and found a nurse assaulted a patient who was wheelchair bound.

Improperly Placed Feeding Tube Causes Injury To Patient

A nursing home has been cited and fined for “failing to ensure there were appropriately trained staff to reinsert a feeding tube”. An LPN placed a feeding tube in a patient and admittedly failed to verify the tube’s proper function and location after placement. The LPN said he placed tubes in patients at previous facilities, however, he had not received training where he misplaced the feeding tube.

Nursing Home Employee Charged With Stealing Drugs From Patients

A nursing home employee has been charged with a felony of stealing controlled drugs from patients under her care. The employee was suspected by the nursing home's director. Police investigated the concerns and found Fentanyl pain patches and a cup for carrying other types of prescription medication. The employee said she stole the drugs for personal use.

Nursing Home Under Investigation For Patient Death

A nursing home may be fined more than $27,000 for the death of a patient. The patient was taken to the hospital in comatose form and diagnosed with severe dehydration. The attending physician said there was no way the patient could have had water for the past 5 days and probably had very little fluids for the weeks prior.
