Several employees at a state home for the developmentally disabled have been fired after alleged abuse and the failure to report patient injuries. According to the Department of Health and Human Services, nine staff members were placed on leave after a series of incidents that took place in late October. After an internal investigation was conducted, the employees were all terminated.
Of the employees fired were seven developmental disabilities trainers, a licensed practical nurse, and a temporary employee. Two of the developmental disabilities trainers were fired for abuse, four of them for failing to report abuse; and one developmental disabilities trainer was terminated for falsification of records.
Police have launched a criminal investigation of the abuse. Police and officials with Social Services were notified and have referred information to the district attorney for possible prosecution. Currently, no criminal charges had been filed. For more, read the story.
