In one state, the Office of Health Facility Complaints found nursing home staff liable for neglect for failing to perform CPR on a resident, according to a report made public this month. On June 16, the resident of the facility complained of feeling ill. When a staff member arrived with nausea medication they found the resident had no pulse.
A nurse was came to the man’s room, but staff couldn’t find his written resuscitation wishes. The nurse called her manager who directed her to the documents and told her to start CPR. The nurse told investigators that “she ‘froze’ and was unable to do so” even though the resident’s wish was to be revived. The nurse faces state penalties including losing her license and inclusion on an abuse registry. For more, read the story.
