A nurse has been sentenced after two years of due process. A patient was moved in a violent manor, breaking a vertebra in her back. The patient was placed on a toilet where she then became unconscious and died. “Our pathologist testified that’s because when that vertebra was broken it put pressure on the lungs, causing her to suffocate basically. When [the nurse] noticed that she passed out, they put her on the bed, attempted to administer CPR, but by then it was too late,” said the prosecutor on the case.
A witness observed the incident and reported it to a detective. The body was autopsied just before being cremated, revealing the broken vertebra and debunking the idea that the patient had died of natural causes. Since then the nurse has served two years in jail or in-home incarceration, but was relieved of serving any further as the judge noted she had suffered enough already, to the family’s satisfaction.
