The former director of nursing at one nursing home home was arrested last week in connection with neglect charges. A warrant has also been issued for a licensed vocational nurse at the facility, however it is believed that she has fled the state. Both have been charged with felony elder abuse likely to cause great bodily harm and death.
According to the attorney general’s office, both women had “clearly neglected” one elderly patient, causing her to suffer “unjustifiable pain.” The resident, who had was recovering from pneumonia, died after suffering severe fecal impaction. The nurses allegedly failed to document accurately the woman’s bowel movements or follow up on her medical condition. If convicted, they face up to four years in prison. For more, read the story.
