Nurses Charged with Forging Medical Records of Elderly Nursing Home Patients

Two senior nurses are charged with falsifying the medical records of vulnerable nursing home patients. According to court documents, the nurses told investigators they forged medical records so the nursing home would not get in trouble. Officials say the fraud made it impossible to tell if the patients really received the medication the needed.

The incident occurred on the date of a surprise inspection by the Department of Health. The director of nursing and the nurse manager filled in “blank patient” records with other nurses initials so that the health inspectors would think the patients got the medication they needed. While the incident occurred in 2011, charges were just filed against the nurses this week. Officials say there is no indication that the home’s management was involved in the fraud.
