A nursing home has been cited for abuse and poor quality care after several incidents were caught on a hidden camera. The incidents involved punching and shoving patients, as well as throwing objects at them. Other nursing home caregivers were caught on their cell phones when they should have been providing care to their patients.
The abuse was not reported until months after it occurred according to the timing of the video and the incidents reported by the administration. Several employees were fired due to the incidents. “The heartbreaking part of all this is that we have to wait for a vulnerable person to be abused, and to catch it on camera, before we feel like we can intervene,” said an executive director of the state’s elder justice center.
