Nursing Home Abuse Moves To Social Media

Concerns for abuse continue as a new method of abuse is rising in occurrence. Social media has become a new avenue of abusing patients in nursing homes. Photos and videos are being shared in social circles via the internet, holding consequences for nursing staff, just as physical abuse or neglect would. Nursing staff are being punished for their crimes as they share images and videos of patients going to the bathroom, repeating degrading phrases, and indecently exposed.

While many are upset over the new method of abuse, others still believe existing abuse must be resolved first. “There is so much abuse that goes on,” she said. “Nursing homes are so short staffed. Every facility I worked in, every time I went in, residents would be soaked from head to toe in pee and they sat in it for hours. They were treated like animals. I understand taking pictures is bad but there are so many worse things that need to be taken care of, too.” For more, read the story.
