A nursing home caregiver was sentenced to one year in prison after assaulting a patient for whom she was to provide care. The patient had suffered a stroke and was paralyzed on one side, requiring round-the-clock care. The patient suffered from injuries and ongoing fear after being assaulted, causing the family to move her from her sister who was at the same nursing home.
“After the beating that [the caregiver] gave our mother, we had to have someone sit with her all night for several months, and she would call us at all hours of the night because of how scared she was that someone would beat her again … The time she has left is miserable thanks to you,” a family member said through tears during her victim impact statement in court.
