Nursing Home Administrator Sentenced For Patient Death Cover Up

A nursing home administrator was sentenced to 7 days in jail for involvement in the cover of a patient’s death. The patient being weaned off a ventilator was supposed to be reconnected to the ventilator, however, the respiratory therapist neglected to do so. Upon hours of an alarm sounding to which no one from the nursing staff responded, the patient died.

Rather than report the mishap to the state department of health, the administrator helped cover the negligence of the respiratory therapist and other nursing staff by claiming the patient died of a heart attack. In addition to the administrator’s jail sentence, nine other employees were convicted, and the nursing home had plans to settle a multi-million dollar lawsuit in the incident.
