Nursing Home Allows Patient To Die, Receives Fine of $90,000

A nursing home has been fined $90,000 following the death of a patient at its facility. The patient collapsed during a physical therapy session. The staff failed to follow protocol to save the patient’s life when he went into cardiac arrest. Staff did not perform chest compressions, use a defribilator, or properly apply an oxygen mask.

A nurse also could not obtain an outside line through the nursing home phone, so she had to use a cell phone to contact the individuals. Admissions have been frozen for the facility with no ability to admit patients until the ban is lifted. For more, read the story
