Surveillance cameras are becoming more prevalent in nursing homes as additional states legalize the placement of cameras in resident rooms. Having cameras installed in the rooms holds employees to a higher accountability for patient care. Even when nursing home caregivers do not meet the standard of care, abuse and neglect have less likelihood of going without notice.
One nursing aide found this to be true, when she abused a patient along with a coworker. She was charged with abuse and served time in prison based on the surveillance video footage. She will also be on parole and participate in a batterer intervention program. For more, read the story.
