A caregiver made a judgment call on the life of a patient that was not her choice to make. The patient suffered a heart attack, and rather than perform CPR, the nurse decided her health was too fragile and that she had a poor quality of life. A panel investigating the incident has moved for her dismissal from the nurse registry.
“You did not know the patient’s medical history at the time of the (cardiac) arrest and therefore you were under a duty to perform CPR, which you did not do,” said the panel. The nurse was told by another health worker that the patient was “for resuscitation”. For more, read the story.
