A nursing home nurse has been charged with second-degree manslaughter and criminal neglect (both felonies), along with a misdemeanor charge of criminal neglect and mistreatment of a resident. The nurse lifted a 100-year-old 5 feet off the ground with a lift. He dropped the patient while transferring her to the bath tub.
When the patient fell she fractured her ankle so severely her foot was almost severed from her body. The nurse left her alone after trying to move her by pulling on her robe. Both were violations of care. The patient died 7 days after the fall. For more, read the story.
