Two nursing homes have been cited for fatal safety violations. In one incident, the patient was a full code, however, when the patient coded, the staff began to perform CPR. Another staff member stopped them saying the patient was a “do not resuscitate”. However, the form was misread by the staff member. There were also red and green dots on the patient's rooms to note whether or not to resuscitate them if a patient codes.
The staff member said they were never trained on the meaning of the dots and was later fired due to the incident. In another incident the patient had an intellectual disability. The patient was allowed to choke on food and die. Both facilities involving the fatalities were cited with Class A violations and fined. For more, read the story.
