Nursing Home Closes Based on Video

A nursing home owner struggles to keep the facility open. The Department of Health plans to shut down a 91-resident nursing home after hidden camera footage recorded patient neglect and abuse, deficiencies found during inspections involving food handling and patient care.

Due to its numerous complaints and poor status with the state, the Attorney General made a first time move by placing hidden cameras in patient room with permission of the patients. He handed over hours worth of video that he says captures a stroke patient not being fed properly and another patient not receiving needed breathing treatments.

The owner received notification with plans to revoke their license. The owner of the facility spoke denied the claims and he refers to all of this action by the state “harassment.” The owner plans to appeal. For more, read the story.
