Nursing Home Compare Website Gets New Features

The federal government recently revamped its main online tool to help families better evaluate nursing homes. The “Nursing Home Compare” website now features 21 new criteria that measure the quality of care at nursing homes nationwide.

The new criteria replaces a set of 17 old criteria and focuses on specific issues that affect many nursing home residents, such as pressure ulcers, infections, self-reported pain, falls, and general well-being. It will also report the percentage of residents at any particular nursing home who claim to experience significant pain and the percentage who have been physically restrained.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services said the new criteria were put in place to help families better understand the quality of care at nursing homes. The site allows families to compare nursing home performances to find the best one for their family member. The Nursing Home Compare can be found here. For more, read the story.
