There is a growing concern for residents of nursing homes who are given the blood thinning medication Coumadin. The concerns stems from the difficulty for nursing homes to control the use of the drug in a way that all residents remain safe using it. It either results in the facilities accidentally administering too much blood thinner, causing them to bleed out, or not enough, causing them to obtain blood clots.
Either results in fatalities making this drug is growing problem. One nursing home administrator is trying to really crack down on the problem and tells others that everything just needs to have a system to track every administration of Coumadin and every aspect of the resident’s health and symptoms.
