Nursing Home Converts To Memory Center For Dementia Patients

A nursing home will soon be converted to a “memory center” as there is a growing need and trend to fulfill the needs of nursing home patients suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.  Nursing homes have flourished in the area, so the current nursing home facility experienced a drop in revenue with struggles to compete with other facilities filling their beds. However, the need for dementia specific care is rising. Therefore, the new owners of the facility decided to offer a specialized treatment center to a niche market.

“The demand for a memory center is there,” according to the executive director of the state’s Long Term Care Ombudsman Program. “Their assessment is this type of care is needed in that part of the state, and we have seen it is really a need statewide.” Residents in the current nursing home facility will be relocated over time.
