A government funded agency has added more emphasis on training nursing home staff to improve the quality of care for nursing home patients. A new initiative focusing on prevention and improvement of medical assessments and condition management is providing higher education for caregivers in hopes of raising the bar of care provided. Expected outcomes from the model promoted with the training include reduced hospitalizations and spending of government funds.
“This initiative has the potential to improve the care for the most frail, most vulnerable Medicare-Medicaid enrollees—long-term residents of nursing facilities,” said the director of the Medicare Medicaid Coordination Office. “By aligning financial incentives, we can improve the quality of on-site care in nursing facilities and the assessment and management of conditions that too often now lead to unnecessary and costly hospitalizations.” For more, read the story.
