Employees of one nursing home are helping Korean War Veterans and Scottish Immigrants cast their vote in the upcoming elections. “We just believe that everyone deserves to have their voice heard,” said one of the employees.
A few months ago two employees of the facility began asking each of the 115 residents if they’d like to vote. About 30 said yes. All of of the residents who wanted to vote, have now been able cast absentee ballots.
The two nursing home employees said that they recognize the importance of voting and what it might mean to the home’s residents. One of the employees said that she wanted the residents to continue to feel like they were contributing to society. According to the U.S. Census Bureau people over 75 were the least likely to have registered to vote in the 2008 elections. For more, read the story.
