Residents of a nursing home were secretly videotaped in their
rooms for nearly one year by hidden cameras installed to thwart theft,
a state investigation revealed.
The Agency for Health Care Administration discovered
the surveillance system while inspecting the nursing home
for mold earlier this year.
In all, investigators found three cameras mounted above the
lay-in ceilings of three resident rooms, rolling 24 hours a day to a
closed-circuit TV located in the administrator. A
fourth camera recorded activity in the staff lounge.
A surveyor, searching for mold, removed a ceiling panel in one
of the rooms and noticed a camera, according to the 54-page AHCA report
detailing the findings.
The administrator admitted the nursing home did not have oral or
