Nursing Home Facilities Work To Improve Wandering Issues After Being Cited, Fined

Two nursing home facilities are working to improve the safety of their Alzheimer’s patients. Since they have a wandering rate of 6 in 10, Alzheimer’s patients need special measures taken to ensure their safety is met. These nursing home facilities each received thousands of dollars in fines, because they allowed patients to wander.

The facilities in addition to receiving fines and citations, developed a plan of correction to prevent future wandering incidents. “Facilities are supposed to know where their residents are and protect them from hazards in the environment,” said the spokesman for the state Department of Inspections and Appeals. “The size of the state fine is an indication of the severity of the identified deficiency.” The nursing home facilities are now working on security systems and procedures to lessen wandering in their facilities. For more, read the story
