Nursing Home Fined $100,000 For Patient Death

A nursing home facility has been fined $100,000 after a 61-year-old patient was found dead in her bed. The patient received a minor surgery to receive an AV shunt for her dialysis. The patient was not monitored over night upon her return. Nurses then falsified records to note they monitored her vitals when in fact they had not. An unannounced state survey was conducted based on a complaint after which they filed a report on the incident.

“Based on observation, interview and record review, the department determined that the facility failed to provide (the patient) with the necessary care and services to attain or maintain the highest practicable physical, mental and psychosocial well-being, in accordance with the comprehensive assessment and plan of care to meet the needs of the resident,” the report said.
