Nursing Home Fined $31,000 For Failure To Check Blood Sugar Levels In Diabetic Patients

A nursing home has been fined $31,000 for failing to properly test diabetes patients for blood sugar levels. The nursing home staff said they did not have the necessary supplies to complete the tests. The failure to test patients’ blood sugar lasted for a span of 24 days until an inspection was completed.

The inspection led to testimonies of nurses stating that they were told they did not have access to supplies due to budgetary issues. The facility said there was a breakdown in communication. However, the facility agreed to a settlement due to the violations found by the surveyors. Some of the settlement was to recover survey expenses due to the extent of the inspection based on the severity of the violations. For more, read the story.
