Nursing Home Fined $552,109 For Patient Death

A nursing home was recently cited and fined $552,109 for a patient's death. The patient had expressed a desire to leave the home on multiple occasions, but nonetheless was allowed to freely move through the building. The patient was noted sitting near the front doors and later disappeared at midnight the night he went missing.  However, the nurse assumed he was in his room without verifying it.

The patient was found by a pharmacist at 2:25am lying in the parking lot with his head resting on a curb. The temperature was only 40 degrees. The patient was taken to the emergency room and returned to the nursing home to be placed on oxygen. The nursing home did not provide proper care and the patient died by 2pm the next day. More complaints have been filed since that incident. For more, read the story.
