Nursing Home Fined by State’s Department of Health, Nurse’s Aide Terminated

One nursing home is paying hefty fines after an incident where a nurse’s aide improperly transferred a patient. According to inspection records, the staff member was adequately trained but ignored safety measures regarding the safe transfer of patients via mechanical device. During the aide’s improper transfer, the patient fell to the ground and sustained injuries. The inspection stated that the employee chose not to reveal reasons for ignoring protocol.

The nurse’s aide was terminated following the incident. “Initially, we wanted to sue [the employee], but that would have been a stretch,” a commissioner stated during an interview. Instead, commissioners elected to have the penalties repaid by taxpayers. For more, read the story.
