Nursing Home Fined For Patient Death; Pays Fine, Waives Right To Hearing

A nursing home was fined $32,000 for allowing a patient to wander and ultimately die. The facility was originally fined $50,000. However, the facility did not contest the fine and waived its right to a hearing. The fine was then reduced.

According to an attorney for abuse and neglect, “Nursing homes are meant to be places where elderly and disabled people can go for skilled care and compassion. Unfortunately, many nursing home residents fall victim to abuse and negligence at the very hands of their caregivers. Due to physical and/or mental disabilities, nursing home residents are often vulnerable to mistreatment and are unable to protect or defend themselves.” For more, read the story.
