A nursing home has been fined more than $9,000 following an incident involving two residents. One resident threatened another resident with a butter knife saying he would slit the patient’s throat and drink his blood. Several encounters with threats and an attempt to obtain knives from the cafeteria lead to multiple citations.
The facility then failed to put interventions in place in the patient’s care plan to prevent future incidents. In addition, after the incident with the knife the patient was ordered to have one-to-one-to-one supervision until he could be taken to the hospital. However, one nurse removed the high level of supervision due to low staffing at the facility. The facility would not return calls questioning the incidents and the fine. For more, read the story.
