Nursing home abuse incidents are going largely unreported in one state. After a mentally impaired resident was sexually assaulted by another resident that went unreported by the facility, an investigation ensued. The sexual assault incident was reported to police who arrested the resident.
However, according to the state health department, many have gone unreported. Facilities are trying to handle incidents internally rather than involving outside authorities. This is a disservice to patients and against reporting regulations. For more, read the story.
