Nursing Home LPN Sentence For Stealing Pain Pills From Patients

A now former employee of a nursing facility was accused and found guilty of stealing almost 200 pills from the residents she cared for day to day. The pills she stole were narcotics to be used for controlling pain of the elderly in the facility. The former employee, a licensed practical nurse, filled out the medical documents saying that she gave the residents their pills so she could safely steal them without being caught.

When accused, she pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two months in the county jail and three years on probation. The state attorney general was very concerned due to the trust place in nurses hired to have the best interest of the patients in mind and action. “Nurses are responsible for providing comfort and care to their patients, not stealing narcotics from those who need them for pain relief,” said the state attorney general.
