The state health department in one state has issued a report revealing concerns about the rate at which nursing home incidents are reported. According to the report, nursing home abuse and neglect is grossly underreported. Based on the incidents noted, 15 percent go unreported. Of those incidents that are reported, 69 percent could have been prevented.
“The nursing home facility shall initiate an investigation within 1 business day after the risk manager or his or her designee has received a report pursuant to paragraph (1)(d). The facility must complete the investigation and submit a report to the agency within 15 calendar days after the adverse incident occurred.” says the report. For more, read the story.
