A nursing home patient has died and the family has filed a lawsuit. The patient was neglected and allowed to suffer a pressure ulcer that progressed and was not properly treated. As a result she was taken to the hospital.
“I remember, distinctly, the surgeon looking at me, and in a very stern voice saying, 'How long have you known about this,' as if I was the one providing for her care. And I said, 'I just found out about it this morning,”' the patient's daughter said.
“The doctor's response was, ‘Well this didn't happen overnight.’” The wound was to the bone. A health department investigation led to findings of neglect. For more, read the story.
