Nursing Home Patient And Registered Sex Offender Assaults Other Patients

Two patients at the nursing home were assaulted and police are investigated the circumstances. A nursing home is under investigation as well as a nursing home patient. The facility admitted a registered sex offender who failed to submit a change of address when admitted to the facility.

The investigation will address whether or not the nursing home knew of the patient's status as a sex offender. However, while the law does not require that other patients be notified of the sex offender's status, the nursing home is required to provide a safe and protected environment for all patients.  If there was knowledge that the patient was a sex offender, there was a responsibility to prevent the opportunity for sexual assault to take place.
