Nursing Home Patient Burned Smoking, Dies From Injuries

A nursing home patient died weeks after suffering serious burns while smoking. The patient had previously burned himself while smoking and was put on a supervision list shortly after. The family filed a lawsuit stating the facility's neglect to provided an appropriate space for the patient to smoke safely.

A health information survey of the same facility. found that 30% of the patients who were supposed to be supervised while smoking were not receiving supervision and had been burned or injured while smoking. For more, read the story
