Nursing Home Patient Dies After Suffering Third Degree Burns and Heat Stroke

A nursing home allowed a patient with dementia to wander out of the facility. The patient got his wheelchair stuck leaving him in sweltering heat allowing him to suffer third degree burns and a heat stroke. The patient died just two weeks after being allowed to wander outside in the heat. He was 89 years old. 

The facility agreed to pay $400,000 in a death settlement. The state governor on the nursing home’s board described the incident as “horrific” agreeing with the settlement. For more, read the story
