The family of a deceased nursing home patient is seeking justice and future prevention measures for nursing home patient care. A patient in a nursing home for 15 months was allowed to develop a bedsore that became infected and progressed to a Stage IV level. The bedsore was the size of a fist by the time she was sent to the hospital. The patient’s sisters were shocked at the progression of the bedsore as they had been told the sore was small and healing well.
However, the patient died just weeks later at the age of 40. They are now working with police and the state health department to investigate responsibility for their sister’s death. They are also seeking policy changes that would require bedsores to be reported by nursing homes. For more, read the story.
