A former licensed care provider is being charged with second-degree murder in a nursing home neglect case. The patient died of sepsis after suffering from severe pressure ulcers. The caregiver had a license at one point, but failed to renew it. The patient staying with the caregiver was the only patient in the home. Income received for care offered to the one patient was $850 per month.
The hospital received the patient with pressure ulcers and called police after noting the severity of the sores. The “staff told officers it was the worst case of neglect some of them had ever seen”. The caregiver tried to say the sores had only been noticed in the last week; but, the hospital staff said the sores were stuffed with paper towels. For more, read the story.
