Nursing Home Patient Dies Due To Negligence

A nursing home is under investigation for a patient's death. The patient died in a whirlpool tub after asking to take a bath. The facility staff noted that the patient enjoyed long baths and would check on patient's every 5-10 minutes. However, the standard of care requires that alarms be placed in bathrooms to alert staff in case of an emergency.

According to the standard, the facility should “be adequately equipped to allow residents to call for staff assistance through a communication system which relays the call directly to a staff member or to a centralized staff work area” at both the residents' bedside and all “toilet and bathing facilities.” For  more, read the story
