Nursing Home Patient Dies From Fall

Neglecting to maintain mechanical lifts to ensure their proper operation is the cause of a nursing home patient’s death. The nursing home had ignored issues that continued over time and failed to implement safety precautions. The Department of Health revealed no history of inspections on the lifts. Reports revealed the safety catches were continually popping off the lift.

The safety catch was actually missing when the patient was being transferred from his bed to a wheelchair. The patient fell from a harness during while on a lift. He suffered spinal fractures and a head laceration. He died just five days later.  For more, read the story. ____________________________________________________________________________
