Nursing Home Patient Sent To Hospital With Maggots In Wound

A family is in shock after learning that their loved one as a nursing home patient had maggots in a wound. The patient developed a pressure sore and larvae hatched in it, requiring hospitalization. Hospital employees were believed to have called the police about the incident.

“Maggots in a wound are not good,” said an expert in the field. “I can’t think of a case where you could actually say it’s not negligent … If they found fully developed larvae in it, you have to wonder how frequently they’re cleaning the wound, and really paying attention to what they’re doing.” For more, read the story.
