Nursing Home Patient Sexual Abuse Initially Unreported

A nursing home has been cited for failure to report a case of sexual abuse. The incident occurred between two patients when a female patient unable to speak or move beyond her wheelchair went missing. She was found with another patient naked pressing himself into her while she was still fully clothed. Unfortunately, the situation was foreseen as a possibility and initially unreported.

The manager on duty did not believe it was a case of sexual abuse until a nurse reviewed the notes regarding the incident the next day. The facility was audited based on complaints of failure to report abuse. The auditor noted concerns that there was not assurance the same type of incident could reoccur. Now policies are being reviewed to determine if the proper procedures are being handled. For more, read the story
